"Pistols 'n' Petticoats" chronicled the lives of the gun-slinging Hanks family, which consisted of Grandpa (Andrew), his wife Grandma (Effie), widowed daughter Henrietta, grandaughter (and Henrietta's daughter) Lucy, and their pet wolf Bowser. The "Petticoats" being the Hanks ladies, of course, even though Lucy (who was raised in the city) would spend more time being at odds with the rest of the clan rather than helping protect their land.
The Hanks lived in the town of Wrecthed, Colorado in the year 1870, where at that time, the sprawling old west was being occupied by outlaws and other rutless villians, so naturally it was up to the Hanks to clean up the town, which made them more popular with the citizens than with the town sheriff, Harold Sikes, who didn't like having the spotlight shine on the Hanks. The State of Colorado ( or chiefly by nonresidents) is a state located in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States of America. Year 1870 ( MDCCCLXX) was a Common year starting on Saturday (link will display the full calendar of the Gregorian calendar (or a Common The Hanks also had adversaries with rival Buss Courtney and members of a nearby Indian tribe, lead by Chief Eagle Shadow, and his assistants Grey Hawk and Little Bear.
The series would be Ann Sheridan's last role, for she would pass away on January 21, 1967, nearly two months before CBS cancelled the series, despite its popularity. Events 1189 - Philip II of France and Richard I of England begin to assemble troops to wage the Third Crusade. Year 1967 ( MCMLXVII) was a Common year starting on Sunday (link will display full calendar of the 1967 Gregorian calendar. Of the 26 shows that was produced, Sheridan only appeared in 21 episodes.
After its cancellation, Universal Pictures used several of the episodes as "archive footage" for the 1967 feature film "The Far Out West. Universal Studios (sometimes called Universal Pictures or Universal City Studios) a subsidiary of NBC Universal, is a major Global American "
Today both Universal Home Video and Echo Bridge Home Video currently holds the DVD rights to the series.
At the time this series aired, CBS already had another sitcom with the "Petticoat" title in its schedule, "Petticoat Junction. Petticoat Junction is an American Situation comedy produced by Filmways, which originally aired on the CBS network from 1963 " Both shows are not in any way related because they were produced by different studios.
Although the series had a short life, its opening theme song is still remembered by fans to this day. Here is the show's lyrics, written by Jack Elliott and George Tibbles:
Henrietta can fire a gun with one hand milkin' the goat, And hit a coyote on the run in "Pistols 'n' Petticoats"
The story goes that grandma was best at shootin' buttons off a rustler's vest, Grandpa kept his gun in trim, nobody messed around with him
Chasin' bandits for them was fun from Bristol to Tarahut, Every gun in the west would run from "Pistols 'n' Petticoats"
That's the legend about the Hanks just the way she was wrote, They kept busy protecting banks in "Pistols 'n' Petticoats"
