Peccia is one of six small Swiss municipalities which merged in April 2004 to form the commune of Lavizzara, with about 1000 people. Peccia is a village in the Valle Maggia. Valle Maggia (Maggia Valley is an alpine valley of the Maggia River in Ticino, the Italian canton of Switzerland. In 1984 a sculpting school was established in Peccia. The students work mostly with marble from a local quarry, the only place in Switzerland where marble is quarried.
