Janish attended Cypress Creek High School where he played shortstop and pitched for the Cougars. Cypress Creek High School, also known as Cy-Creek is a public secondary school located in unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States. He was named to the 2001 Texas 5A All-State team. Janish played for Rice University. William Marsh Rice University (commonly called Rice University and opened in 1912 as The William Marsh Rice Institute for the Advancement of Letters Science and Art In 2002, he played in 61 games at shortstop, had a batting average of .
