Panthan (meaning "path" in Sanskrit) is the term used for several religious traditions in India.

A panth is founded by a guru or an acharya, and is often led by scholars or senior practitioners of the tradition. A guru (गुरु গুরু is a person who is regarded as having great knowledge wisdom and authority in a certain area and uses it to guide others An acharya ( acariya in Pali) is an important religious teacher ( Guru) who teaches by his own example (from Sanskrit 'achara' behavior
