The now defunct OpenCD project aimed to introduce users of Microsoft Windows to the benefits of free and open source software (FOSS). An open source license is a copyright License for Computer software that makes the source code available under terms that allow for modification and redistribution It was sponsored by Canonical Ltd. Canonical Ltd is a Private company founded (and funded by South African Entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth for the promotion of Free software
In September 2007, project lead Chris Gray left the project to pursue his own open source disc, called OpenDisc, citing numerous difficulties[1] which he believed were negatively affecting the progress of the OpenCD project. The OpenDisc project offers a selection of high quality Open source software on a disc for Microsoft Windows users As of the 27th September 2007, the OpenCD project is no longer under active development.
