Noordwijkerhout (population: 15,121 in May 2006) is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The coastal dunes where Noordwijkerhout is located have been inhabited since prehistoric times. Archaeological digs in the area just north outside of town have found items and implements from before the Common Era. During the Roman era, this region was inhabited by a Germanic tribe, called Cananefates by the Roman writer Tacitus.
