Noekk is a German progressive doom metal band that is a collaboration of two Empyrium members. Progressive metal (often referred to simply as prog metal) is a sub-genre of Heavy metal music which blends the powerful guitar-driven sound of metal with the complex Doom metal is a form of Heavy metal music that typically employs very slow Tempos low-tuned guitars and a much 'thicker' or 'heavier' sound than other metal Empyrium started as German symphonic folk / Doom metal and later Neofolk band founded in 1994 by Markus Stock (mostly The origin of the band's name is supposed to come from a water creature that was able to transform into a beautiful white horse. When the proud stallion eventually got a human to mount it, it dashed into the dark waters and drowned the victim. According to some Norwegian legends the Noekk demanded an annual human sacifice. [2]
