The Noah's Ark Appeal, also known as the Children's Hospital for Wales Appeal, was founded in May 2000 to build the first ever Children's Hospital solely for use by the children of Wales. A children's hospital is a Hospital which offers its services exclusively to children. 2000 ( MM) was a Leap year that started on Saturday of the Common Era, in accordance with the Gregorian calendar. The founding trustees of the Appeal were Wyn Calvin, Geoff Rich, Eddie Rabiotti and Lyn Jones. Wyn Calvin MBE (born Wyn Calvin Thomas 1928 sometimes called the "Clown Prince of Wales" and "The Welsh Prince of Laughter" is a veteran Welsh comedian Lyn Jones is a former Wales international Rugby union player A flanker he played his club rugby for Neath RFC. The latter continues to work for the Charity on a voluntary basis as Chairman, while the former two men serve the Appeal as trustees.
Phase One of the hospital opened its door to patients in February 2005. Year 2005 ( MMV) was a Common year starting on Saturday (link displays full calendar of the Gregorian calendar. Support for the building of the hospital was fervent at the Appeal's birth and continues to be huge. Campaigners are now working towards encouraging the Welsh Assembly Government to release funds that have been laid aside for Phase Two of the hospital. The National Assembly for Wales (Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru is a devolved assembly with power to make legislation in Wales.
