History

NY 117 originally included New York State Route 448, until it was realiged onto a 4 lane highway in anticipation of an interchange with the formerly proposed Hudson River Expressway. New York State Route 448 is a long state highway in western Westchester County New York. Interstate 487 was a proposed intrastate Interstate Highway in New York that was to run from The Bronx to Beacon. When this project was cancelled it became locally known as the "Highway to Nowhere," and ends into what is now Phelps Hospital. Near the eastern end, it originally followed Bedford Road directly into Katonah, where NY 117 terminated at New York State Route 35. New York State Route 35 is the principal east-west highway in the northern part of Westchester County New York, carrying average daily volumes of around 16500 vehicles ^[2] Recently, the route was realigned to end at an interchange with the Saw Mill River Parkway south of Katonah.

NY 117 is also part of pop culture as portions of the "Highway to Nowhere" served as the highway in Broken Lizard's cult favorite movie Super Troopers.
