NY 117 originally included New York State Route 448, until it was realiged onto a 4 lane highway in anticipation of an interchange with the formerly proposed Hudson River Expressway. When this project was cancelled it became locally known as the "Highway to Nowhere," and ends into what is now Phelps Hospital.
