End-zone militia
During each game, about 10 men dressed as minutemen line the back of each end zone. Minutemen were members of teams of select men from the American colonial militia during the American Revolutionary War. When the Patriots score a touchdown or field goal, the militia behind the opposite end zone fire a round of blanks from flintlock muskets. A touchdown is the primary method of scoring in American and Canadian football.
