Criticism

Whilst the awards were original intended to be an 'alternative' to the Brit awards, they have received criticism for becoming increasingly commercial. The BRIT Awards, often simply called The BRITs, are the British Phonographic Industry 's annual pop music awards After the 2002 awards an article on telegraph.co.uk reported that the winners of the NME awards "were almost interchangeable" with the winners of the Brit awards and criticised then editor Ben Knowles for what they saw as a hypocritical attack on the commercial nature of the Brit Awards. For "The Daily Telegraph" in Australia see The Daily Telegraph (Australia. [4]

The 2008 award nominations were criticised in The Guardian for a lack of diversity and not including any female artists. The Guardian (until 1959 The Manchester Guardian) is a British Newspaper owned by the Guardian Media Group. [5]
