Hashish accepted a research scientist position at Flow International Corporation in Kent, Washington, USA, in 1979. Kent is a city located in King County Washington, United States. Although Flow was involved in waterjet cutting, it wasn't until Hashish invented a technique to add abrasives to the waterjet when the strongest cutting tool in the world was realized. An abrasive is a material often a Mineral, that is used to shape or finish a workpiece through rubbing which leads to part of the workpiece being worn away [2] Hashish supplemented his initial invention with numerous patents over the next 25 years [3][4][5][6] to further improve upon waterjet cutting. Due to his outstanding work in the field and consistent advancements to the abrasive waterjet technology, the University of Washington department of Mechanical Engineering honored him with the appointment as an affiliate professor of Mechanical Engineering.
