D'Abo, the son of a London stockbroker, was educated at Harrow School and Selwyn College, Cambridge. In December 1968 d'Abo played the lead role in "Gulliver Travels" - subtly not "Gulliver's Travels" - at the Mermaid Theatre, Blackfriars, London.
