Midrand (previously Halfway House) is a town located in the Johannesburg conurbation in Gauteng Province, South Africa. Johannesburg ( Pronounced /jō-hān'ĭs-bûrg'/ is the largest city in South Africa. A conurbation is an Urban area or Agglomeration comprising a number of Cities, large Towns and larger urban areas that through Population Gauteng (xaʊˈtɛŋ Sotho xɑ́útʼèŋ̀ is a province of South Africa. The Republic of South Africa (also known by other official names) is a country located at the southern tip of the continent of Africa The name comes from being half way between The Rand (Witwatersrand) and Pretoria. The Witwatersrand is a low sedimentary range of hills at an elevation of 1700-1800 metres above sea-level which runs in an east-west direction through Gauteng in Pretoria is a city located in the northern part of Gauteng Province, South Africa. Midrand is in Region 2 of Johannesburg's administrative region plan. Region 2 was an administrative district in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa. Is it built around the N1, and is home to Midrand Graduate Institute and UNISA's Graduate School of Business Leadership. Midrand Graduate Institute (MGI is a South African Private Higher Education Institution based in Midrand, Gauteng Province.
The city is relatively modern, having experienced much growth in the last decade. Many businesses have relocated there due to its proximity to good highway links and its location in the economic centre of Gauteng Province. Midrand's development has meant there is little break between the outskirts of Johannesburg and those of Pretoria, and the Gauteng Provincial Government envisages that, according to current growth trends, much of the province will be city by 2015. Gauteng (xaʊˈtɛŋ Sotho xɑ́útʼèŋ̀ is a province of South Africa.
Midrand is also the location of the African Union's Pan-African Parliament. The African Union (abbreviated AU in English, and UA in its other working languages is a Confederation consisting of 53 African The Pan-African Parliament, also known as the African Parliament is the legislative body of the African Union.
Previously a separate municipality, in 2000, Midrand's municipal government became part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. 2000 ( MM) was a Leap year that started on Saturday of the Common Era, in accordance with the Gregorian calendar. The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality is a Metropolitan Municipality that manages the local governance of Johannesburg, South Africa.
