Ure began his career with Slik. Slik were a Scottish pop, glam, blubblegum and Soft rock group of the mid 1970s following in the footsteps of the Before Slik became famous they were known as Salvation and were the house band playing mostly covers in Glasgow disco Clouds (above Green’s Playhouse), where all major bands played when they came to the city. In 1984, Ure co-wrote with Bob Geldof and produced the Band Aid hit, "Do They Know It's Christmas?". In 2005 he organised Live 8 concerts with Bob Geldof with the aim of pressing G8 leaders into taking action to end world poverty. Live 8 was a string of Benefit concerts that took place on 2 July, 2005, in the G8 states and in South Africa. Ure resides in the village of Southstoke near the city of Bath. Southstoke is a small village in North East Somerset, England Bath is a city in Somerset in the south west of England It is situated west of London and south-east of Bristol.

Ure has been married twice: to actress and writer Annabel Giles (with whom he has one daughter, Molly) and to Sheridan Forbes (with whom he has three daughters, Kitty, Ruby and Flossie). Annabel Giles (born 20 May 1959) has been a model, a television and radio presenter an actress and a comedienne during her 25-year career (1982-present Molly McQueen (real name Molly Decima Ure) was born March 7, 1987 in the London Borough of Westminster and was the lead singer of the band

His daughter Molly has followed her father into the music industry, as the guitarist and vocalist of pop punk band The Faders, who split in July 2006. A guitarist is a Musician who plays the Guitar. He was able to indulge the second of these in the 2007 Celebrity Masterchef series, easily winning his heat and progressing to the final on 15 June, alongside Nadia Sawalha and Craig Revel Horwood.
