The Hon Michael Lavarch was the federal Attorney-General of Australia between 1993 and 1996. The Attorney-General of Australia is the first law officer of the Crown chief law officer of the Commonwealth of Australia and a Minister of the Crown. [1]
Lavarch commenced his legal career in Brisbane as a Solicitor. He is married to Linda Lavarch and the couple have two children. Linda Denise Lavarch (born 27 November 1958) is an Australian Labor Party politician and Solicitor.
On 11 July 1987 he was elected to Australian Federal Parliament for the Queensland electorate of Fisher. In 1998 Lavarch was elected as a Queensland delegate to The National Constitutional Convention. [3] He was Secretary-General of the Law Council of Australia from 2001 to 2004. The Law Council of Australia is an association of law societies and Bar associations from the States and territories of Australia, and the peak body representing [4] In 2004 he was appointed Dean and Professor of Law at Queensland University of Technology, of which he is also a graduate. Queensland University of Technology (QUT is located in Brisbane, Queensland, and is one of Australia's largest universities. [1]
Lavarch has written numerous book chapters and articles about Australia's legal and political systems, including being editor of "Beyond the Adversarial System"
