The Melanesia Cup is a soccer championship played between the Melanesian countries, it was used (along with the Polynesia Cup) for qualification to the Oceania Nations Cup. Melanesia (from Greek: μέλας black, νῆσος island) means "islands of the black-skinned people" The Polynesia Cup was a football tournament for Polynesian nations within the Oceania Football Confederation. The OFC Nations Cup is a football competition held among the Oceania Football Confederation member nations The last edition of the cup was in 2001, although there are plans to revive the championship. The tournament used a round-robin format involving every team playing each other once at the tournaments location.
