Mauricio Ochmann is the son of a painter and a businessman; as a child he joined local theater companies. Recently in a 2007 interview on a spanish talk show Ochmann revealed his addiction with the drug cocaine and how he was at death's door. He was asked: ¿cuándo comenzaste a consumir drogas? (When did you first start taking drugs?) Desde niño, cuando por primera vez probé el alcohol, y no por su sabor, sino por evadirme de la realidad. Los narcóticos llegaron más tarde. (Since childhood, when I for the first time tried alcohol but not for the taste but instead to escape from reality. The narcotics came along much later. )
He also acknowledges God throughout his ordeal with drugs stating "Fortunately, God took me by the hand and has given me the oportunity to continue ahead. " Referring to his time in rehab Ochmann expressed that "I felt as though I had arrived at the house of God, to a safe refuge. To me it was like a re-birth. " Ultimately he stayed in rehab for only a month as his recovery was quick.
