Ek was born in Malmö. He is the son of the Royal Dramatic Theatre actor Anders Ek and famous choreographer Birgit Cullberg. The Royal Dramatic Theatre or in Swedish Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern, colloquially known in Sweden as Dramaten, is Sweden's national Anders Ek ( 7 April, 1916 &ndash 17 November, 1979) was a Swedish film actor Birgit Cullberg ( 3 August 1908 &ndash 8 September 1999) was a Swedish choreographer.
Mats Ek was the manager of the Cullberg Ballet in 1985-93. The Cullberg Ballet (Cullbergbaletten is an eminent Swedish Ballet company.
