Gedeck was born in Munich, the eldest of the three daughters of businessman Karl-Heinz Gedeck and secretary Helga Gedeck. Munich (München; Minga is the capital city of Bavaria, Germany. She grew up at first in Landshut, and then from 1971 in Berlin.
