History

The Marcus Corporation was founded by Ben Marcus in 1935 when he opened a movie theatre in Ripon, Wisconsin. Marcus was a franchiser of Marc's Big Boy restaurants, which had locations throughout the Midwestern United States, a majority of them in the Milwaukee area. Big Boy is a restaurant chain started in 1936 by Bob Wian in Glendale California, as Bob's Big Boy. The restaurants have been closed since the 1990s.

On 26 March 2008, it was announced that Marcus Theatres will buy 7 Douglas Theatres of Omaha, Lincoln, and Bellevue, Nebraska, along with the name for $40. 5 million. Cinema Center and Q-Cinema 9 in Omaha will continue to be owned by Douglas Theatres, with Q-Cinema 9 closing before summer.
