In Jyotish astrology, Mangala (Devanagari: मंगल) is the name for Mars, the red planet. Birth

The child was handed over to the earth goddess, Bhumi for upbringing by Lord Shiva. The child was named Bhaum as he was nurtured and brought up by 'Bhumi' (earth).

When Bhaum grew up, he went to Kashi and did a tremendous penance to please lord Shiva. Varanasi ( Sanskrit: वाराणसी Vārāṇasī, pronunciation) also commonly known as Benares ( or Banaras (बनारस Lord Shiva blessed him by granting him 'Mangala loka'(the Abode of Mangala), which was superior even to the 'Shukra loka' (the Abode of the god of Venus - Shukra). Shukra (शुक्र the Sanskrit for "clear pure" or "brightness clearness" is the name the son of Bhrgu and Urjaswathi The same 'Bhauma' is established in the solar system by the name of Mangala or planet 'Mars'. A nakshatra ( Devanagari: नक्षत्र or lunar mansion is one of the 27 or 28 divisions of the sky identified by the prominent star(s in them that the Margashīrsha / Mrigashira (Devanagari मृगशिरा the 5th Nakshatra or lunar mansion as used in Hindu astronomy and Astrology Mangala has the following associations: the color red, metal brass and gemstone red coral. Precious coral or red coral is the common name given to Corallium rubrum and several related species of marine Coral. His element is fire, direction is south, season is summer.
