Maltby Main Colliery is a coal mine situated on the eastern edge of the township of Maltby, some 7 miles east of Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The first shafts at Maltby Main Colliery were sunk in 1907 and the first coal produced four years later. Prior to nationalisation the owners were given as Amalgamated Denaby Collieries Ltd.

Silverwood Colliery was owned by Dalton Main Collieries Ltd, and was originally called Dalton Main. Recently Maltby Colliery has been sold by UK Coal, to transport firm Hargreaves Service. This sale was worth £21. 5 million. Hundreds of jobs have been saved, and the mine is to be kept open a lot longer than UK Coal planned
The colliery was served by the South Yorkshire Joint Railway, and the station, built to serve the community was adjacent, but unfortunately some distance from the township.
