History
During the French occupation under Napoleon the district was part of the departement Donnersberg (fr. Geography
The main river in the district is the Rhine, which forms all the border of the district to the east. The Rhine (Rhein Rijn Rhin Reno Rain Rhenus is one of the longest and most important Rivers in Europe at 1320 kilometres (820 mi with an average discharge In Bingen the river Nahe enters the Rhine, after flowing a short part through the district.
