Maigh Seola was a term used to describe the land along the east shore of Lough Corrib in County Galway, Ireland. Lough Corrib ( Loch Coirib in Irish) is a Lake in the west of Republic of Ireland. County Galway (Contae na Gaillimhe is located on the West Coast of Ireland. Ireland (pronounced /ˈaɾlənd/ Éire) is the third largest island in Europe, and the twentieth-largest island in the world It was bounded by the Hy-Many vassal kingdom of Soghain. Uí Maine, often referred to as Hy Many, was one of the oldest and largest kingdoms located in Connacht, Ireland. Its rulers up to the 1220s were the Uí Briuin Seola, a branch of the Connachta who took the surname O'Flaherty. The Connachta were a group of Irish dynasties who claimed descent from Conn Cétchathach. O'Flaherty is a major Irish Clan, originally called the Muintir Mhurchadha of which the name Ua Flaithbertaig became the name of its ruling dynasty They were based at Loch Cime (later called Lough Hackett until forced into Iar Connacht by the Burkes who led the Norman invasion of Connacht in the 1200s. Iar Chonnachta (longer form - Iarthar Chonnachta) (anglicised spelling- Iar Connaught) covers the portion of County Galway west of Lough Corrib The Normans were the people who gave their names to Normandy, a region in northern France.
