The line through the station site was reopened in 1964 for freight to the nearby Trawsfynydd nuclear power station. Trawsfynydd ( Welsh: "across mountain") is a Village in North Wales, adjacent to the A470 north of Dolgellau

During the 1980s a siding was constructed in the former goods yard at Maentwrog Road for freight deliveries to the explosives factory in Penrhyndeudraeth. Penrhyndeudraeth ( peninsula with two beaches in Welsh) is a Village in Gwynedd, Wales. This was necessary as locomotive hauled trains had been banned from the usual route along the Cambrian Line owing to concerns regarding the structural condition of Barmouth Bridge. The Cambrian Line is a railway from Shrewsbury (in Shropshire, England) to Welshpool, Aberystwyth and Pwllheli. The Barmouth Bridge ( Welsh: Pont Abermaw) is a single-track largely wooden railway viaduct that crosses the estuary of the Afon Mawddach river on the coast

Passenger trains briefly returned to the station in the 1989, using a temporary platform in the old goods yard. These trains ran for one summer in an attempt to encourage tourism at Trawsfynydd power station.

The station building and adjacent station-master's house remain in situ and have been in use as private residences for several years.

In 2002 the A470 bridge at the north end of the station was rebuilt. The A470 is a major long-distance connective spine road in Wales, running from Cardiff on the south coast to Llandudno on the north coast
