Mae is an American rock band (except for Dave Elkins from Dublin, Ireland) that formed in Norfolk, Virginia[3][4] in 2001. Jacob Marshall and Dave Elkins began what would become Mae by writing their first song, "Embers and Envelopes", in Marshall's living room. The band signed with Tooth and Nail Records and released their first album, Destination: Beautiful, in 2003. Tooth & Nail Records is a Record label founded by Brandon Ebel in the U They released their second full-length album, The Everglow, in 2005. The Everglow is Mae 's second full-length Album. Some versions of the album are packaged in a special sleeve The band toured extensively to promote it, and also performed on the Vans Warped Tour. The Warped Tour' is a touring music and Extreme sports festival Mae re-released The Everglow in 2006, adding three new songs and a 2-hour DVD.
Later in 2006, the band announced that they had fulfilled their contract with Tooth & Nail and signed to Capitol Records for their third full-length album. Capitol Records is a major United States -based Record label owned by EMI and located in Hollywood California and New York City as Mae began recording the album in the fall of 2006, working with producer Howard Benson (who has produced albums for Saosin, My Chemical Romance, and Relient K). Howard Benson (born in Havertown, Pennsylvania) is a Grammy nominated Music producer and Aerospace engineer. Saosin is a five-piece band from Newport Beach, California. They formed during the summer of 2003 and are characterised by their powerful high-pitched vocals My Chemical Romance (often shortened to MCR or' My Chem') is an American alternative / post-hardcore quintet that formed in 2001 Relient K is an American rock band formed in Canton Ohio It is titled Singularity and was released on August 14, 2007. According to Elkins in a 2003 interview, while the band members are Christians, Mae is not a "Christian band". [5]
On September 24, 2007 Mark and Rob parted ways with Mae. [6] The two replacement members for touring are 20-year-old Josiah Schlater on bass and Robert Smith on keyboards. Schlater and Smith are members of the band Tokyo, also from Virginia Beach. [7]
Before forming Mae, Dave Elkins was co-founder and lead vocalist for the emo/indie band Sky's the Limit.
