The Mackenzie dike swarm, also called the Mackenzie dikes, form a large igneous province in the western Canadian Shield of Canada. Large Igneous provinces (LIPS were originally defined by Coffin and Eldholm (1992 as areas of Earth's surface that contain very large volumes of magmatic rocks (typically The Canadian Shield &mdash also called the Laurentian Plateau, or Bouclier Canadien (French &mdash is a large geological shield covered by Country to "Dominion of Canada" or "Canadian Federation" or anything else please read the Talk Page It is one of more than three dozen dike swarms in various parts of the Canadian Shield and is the largest dike swarm known on Earth,[1] more than 500 kilometers (311 miles) wide and 3,000 kilometers (1,864 miles) long, extending in a northwesterly direction across the whole of Canada from the Arctic to the Great Lakes. A dike swarm or dyke swarm in Geology is a major group of parallel linear or radially oriented dikes intruded within Continental crust EARTH was a short-lived Japanese vocal trio which released 6 singles and 1 album between 2000 and 2001 The Arctic is the Region around the Earth 's North Pole, opposite the Antarctic region around the South Pole. The Laurentian Great Lakes are a chain of freshwater lakes located in eastern North America, on the Canada–United States border. The mafic dikes cut Archean and Proterozoic rocks, including those in the Athabasca Basin in Saskatchewan, Thelon Basin in Nunavut and the Baker Lake Basin in the Northwest Territories. Mafic is an adjective describing a Silicate mineral or rock that is rich in magnesium and iron the term was derived by contracting "magnesium" and "ferric" The Proterozoic (ˌproʊtərəˈzoʊɪk is a geological eon representing a period before the first abundant complex life on Earth. Vast volumes of basaltic lava paved over a large area in the western Canadian Shield in the form of a flood basalt event. Basalt (bəˈsɔːlt ˈbeisɔːlt ˈbæsɔːlt is a common Extrusive Volcanic rock. Lava is molten rock expelled by a Volcano during an eruption When first expelled from a volcanic vent it is a Liquid at Temperatures The Canadian Shield &mdash also called the Laurentian Plateau, or Bouclier Canadien (French &mdash is a large geological shield covered by A flood basalt or trap basalt is the result of a giant Volcanic eruption or series of Eruptions that coats large stretches of land or the Ocean floor The massive eruptive event occurred during the Proterozoic period about 1,267 million years ago. The Proterozoic (ˌproʊtərəˈzoʊɪk is a geological eon representing a period before the first abundant complex life on Earth. Today the thickness of these flood basalts range from 2,000 to 3,500 m and consists of about 150 flows, each about 10-25 m thick which are part of the Copper Creek Formation. Except for the lowermost flows, which contain evidence of interaction with water, the entire sequence was erupted subaerially. Eruption of plateau lavas near the Coppermine River, built an extensive volcanic plateau about 1,200 million years ago with an area of about 170,000 km² (65,000 sq mi) representing a volume of lavas of at least 500,000 km³ (120,000 mi³). In Geology and Earth science, a plateau, also called a high plateau or tableland, is an area of highland, usually consisting Coppermine River ( is a river in the North Slave and Kitikmeot regions of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut in Canada. A volcanic plateau is a Plateau produced by Volcanic activity. CM3 redirects here If you were looking for the 3rd game in the Cooking Mama series abbreviated as CM3 see here. Origin and history

The source for the Mackenzie dike swarm is considered to be a mantle plume center called the Mackenzie hotspot. A mantle plume is an upwelling of abnormally hot rock within the Earth's mantle. The Mackenzie hotspot was a hotspot that existed about 1267 million years ago across Canada from the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. At ca. 1. 269-1. 267 Ga, the Slave craton was partly uplifted and intruded by the giant Mackenzie dike swarm. Slave craton is a relatively small Archean Craton (about 300000 km² located in the Northwest Territories of Canada. This was the last major event to affect the core of the Slave craton, although later on some younger mafic magmatism registered along its edges. Mafic is an adjective describing a Silicate mineral or rock that is rich in magnesium and iron the term was derived by contracting "magnesium" and "ferric"
