Machrihanish (Scottish Gaelic: Machaire Shanais pronounced [maxəɾʲə hanəʃ]) is a village in Argyll, Scotland. Scottish Gaelic ( Gàidhlig) is a member of the Goidelic branch of Celtic languages. Argyll, Archaically Argyle ( Earra-Ghàidheal in modern Gaelic) is a region of western Scotland corresponding with most of the part Scotland ( Gaelic: Alba) is a Country in northwest Europethat occupies the northern third of the island of Great Britain. Machrihanish boasts a classic links golf course described by many as the defining links course in Scotland. The Machrihanish Golf Club is a classic Scottish links course situated in Machrihanish at the southern tip of the Mull of Kintyre.

Campbeltown Airport, formerly RAF Machrihanish is located near the village. Campbeltown Airport is located 3 Nautical miles (56 km west of Campbeltown, near the tip of the Kintyre peninsula on the west coast of Scotland RAF Machrihanish is a former Royal Air Force station located three miles (5 km from the town of Campbeltown at the tip of Kintyre. Although still available to the Royal Air Force this is now in "Care and Maintenance" and is used as a civil airfield and temporary training ground for military units.
