A lyric soprano is a type of operatic soprano that has a warm quality with a bright, full timbre which can be heard over an orchestra. A light-lyric soprano has a bigger voice than a soubrette but still possesses a youthful quality. Soubrette is a term referring to a type of female role&mdashspecifically a Stock character &mdashin Opera and Theatre. This voice needs to be careful in its repertory choices, because smaller houses may offer them meatier (especially spinto) roles if they have good stage presence.
