Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) awarded a Los Angeles franchise to Jerry Buss on June 24, 1982. This article is about the 1978-1992 Major Indoor Soccer League. Gerald Hatten “Jerry” Buss (born in 1934 is an American professional Basketball team owner a former Real estate developer and a Poker player Buss had purchased the Philadelphia Fever and wanted to move it to southern California. The Philadelphia Fever were a Soccer team based out of Philadelphia that played in the Major Indoor Soccer League. MISL approved and the team was renamed the Lazers. As Buss also owned the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association, he chose the name Lazers for his soccer team both as a pun on the scientific acronym LASER and to note their connection to the Lakers. The Los Angeles Lakers are a National Basketball Association (NBA team based in Los Angeles, California. A laser is a device that emits Light ( Electromagnetic radiation) through a process called Stimulated emission.
