History

The Shire of Yarra Ranges was created from the Local Government Amalgamtions of 1994. Involving the former Shires of Healesville, Lillydale, Sherbrooke and Upper Yarra. The combined Shires have nine wards and representatives are elected every three years. The next Council Election will be in November 2008.

Lilydale is well known for Lillydale Lake, a recreational area where children play and learn about the wetlands environment. Lillydale Lake is an artificial lake and Wetlands area created in Lilydale, Melbourne, Australia. Surrounding the lake are modern housing estates, such as Lakeview Estate.

Lilydale has its own franchise of McDonalds and KFC. Lilydale also has shopping centres named 'The Olive Tree' and 'Stockland' as well as shops on both sides of Main Street.
