History
Liberty was settled in 1822, and shortly later became the county seat of Clay County.
In 1830, David Rice Atchison established a law office in Liberty. David Rice Atchison (August 11 1807 &ndash January 26 1886 was a mid-19th century Democratic United States Senator from Missouri.
