Lemuridae is a family of prosimian primates native to Madagascar, and one of four families commonly known as lemurs. The Eocene epoch (558 ± 02 - 339 ± 01 Ma) is a major division of the Geologic timescale and the second epoch of the Palaeogene period in The Crowned Lemur ( Eulemur coronatus) is a Lemur that is 31-36 cm (12-15 inches long and weighs 2 kg Chordates ( Phylum Chordata) are a group of Animals that includes the Vertebrates together with several closely related Invertebrates Mammals ( class Mammalia) are a class of Vertebrate Animals characterized by the presence of Sweat glands, including sweat glands A primate is a member of the biological order Primates ( Latin: "prime first rank" the group that contains Lemurs the Aye-aye The Clade Strepsirrhini is one of the two Suborders of Primates One of the most distinguishing characteristic of these 118 species is their Wet Lemurs make up the infraorder Lemuriformes and are members of a group of Primates known as Prosimians The term "lemur" is derived from the Lemuroidea is the superfamily of Strepsirrhine Primates that contains many of the Lemur species including True lemurs Sportive lemurs John Edward Gray ( 12 February 1800 &ndash 7 March 1875) was a British zoologist. Characteristics

Lemurids are medium-sized arboreal primates, ranging from 32 to 56 cm in length, excluding the tail, and weighing from 0. 7 to 5 kg. They have long, bushy, tails, and soft, woolly fur of varying coloration. The hindlegs are slightly longer than the forelegs, although not enough to hamper fully quadrupedal movement (unlike the sportive lemurs). Quadrupedalism (from Latin meaning "four legs" is a form of land animal locomotion using four legs. The sportive lemurs are the medium sized Primates that make up the Lepilemuridae family Most species are highly agile, and regularly leap several metres between trees. They have a good sense of smell and binocular vision. Olfaction (also known as olfactics or smell) refers to the Sense of smell. Binocular vision is vision in which both Eyes are used together Unlike most other lemurs, all but one species of lemurid (the Ring-tailed Lemur) lack a tapetum lucidum,[3] a reflective layer in the eye that improves night vision. The Ring-tailed Lemur ( Lemur catta) is a relatively large Strepsirhine Primate, a Lemur belonging to the family Lemuridae. The tapetum lucidum ( Latin: "bright tapestry" plural tapeta lucida) is a layer of tissue in the Eye of many Vertebrate animals that

Lemurids are herbivorous, eating fruit, leaves, and, in some cases, nectar. Herbivory is a form of Predation in which an Organism, known as a herbivore, consumes principally Autotrophs ref name=Campbell>Campbell Nectar is a Sugar -rich liquid produced by plants It is produced either by the Flowers in which it attracts pollinating animals or by extrafloral They have the dental formula:

2. Dentition is the development of Teeth and their arrangement in the Mouth. 1. 3. 3
2. 1. 3. 3

With most lemurids, the mother gives birth to one or two young after a gestation period of between 120 and 140 days, depending on species. Gestation is the carrying of an Embryo or Fetus inside a Female Viviparous Animal. Though the ruffed lemur species are the only lemurids that have true litters, consisting of anywhere from 2 to 6 offspring. The ruffed lemurs of the Genus Varecia are Strepsirhine Primates and the largest Extant Lemurs within the family They are generally sociable animals, living in groups of up to thirty individuals in some species. In some cases, such as the Ring-tailed Lemur, the groups are long-lasting, with distinct dominance hierarchies, while in others, such as the Common Brown Lemur, the membership of the groups varies from day to day, and seems to have no clear social structure[3]. The Common Brown Lemur ( Eulemur fulvus) is a species of Lemur in the Lemuridae family

Classification

The family Lemuridae contains 5 genera, and 19 species. A genus (plural genera from Γένος Latin genus "descent family type gender" is a low-level Taxonomic

Genus Lemur has only one member: Lemur catta, or the Ring-tailed Lemur. A primate is a member of the biological order Primates ( Latin: "prime first rank" the group that contains Lemurs the Aye-aye The Clade Strepsirrhini is one of the two Suborders of Primates One of the most distinguishing characteristic of these 118 species is their Wet Cheirogaleidae is the family of Strepsirrhine Primates that contains the various dwarf and mouse lemurs Lemurinae is a family of Lemurs that include the lemurs which are most known to non-zoologists The Ring-tailed Lemur ( Lemur catta) is a relatively large Strepsirhine Primate, a Lemur belonging to the family Lemuridae. The Ring-tailed Lemur ( Lemur catta) is a relatively large Strepsirhine Primate, a Lemur belonging to the family Lemuridae. True lemurs, also known as brown lemurs, are the Lemurs in genus Eulemur. The Black Lemur ( Eulemur macaco) is a species of Lemur from the family Lemuridae. The Common Brown Lemur ( Eulemur fulvus) is a species of Lemur in the Lemuridae family Sanford's Brown Lemur ( Eulemur sanfordi) is a species of Primate in the Lemuridae family The White-headed Lemur ( Eulemur albifrons) also known as the White-fronted Brown Lemur, is a species of Primate in the Lemuridae The Red-fronted Brown Lemur ( Eulemur rufus) is a species of Lemur from Madagascar. The Collared Brown Lemur ( Eulemur collaris) is a species of Primate in the Lemuridae family The White-collared Brown Lemur ( Eulemur albocollaris) is a medium-sized Prosimian in the order Primates, a Cathemeral species The Mongoose Lemur ( Eulemur mongoz) is a Lemur ranging from 12 to 18 inches long plus a tail of 16 to 25 inches The Crowned Lemur ( Eulemur coronatus) is a Lemur that is 31-36 cm (12-15 inches long and weighs 2 kg The Red-bellied Lemur ( Eulemur rubriventer) is a medium sized Prosimian with a luxuriant chestnut brown coat The ruffed lemurs of the Genus Varecia are Strepsirhine Primates and the largest Extant Lemurs within the family The Black-and-white Ruffed Lemur ( Varecia variegata) is one of the two species of Ruffed lemurs the other being the Red Ruffed Lemur. The Red Ruffed Lemur ( Varecia rubra) is one of two species in the genus Varecia, the Ruffed lemurs the other is the Black-and-white Ruffed Lemur The bamboo or gentle lemurs are the Lemurs in genus Hapalemur. The Eastern Lesser Bamboo Lemur ( Hapalemur griseus) also known as the Gray Bamboo Lemur and the Gray Gentle Lemur, is a small Lemur endemic The Western Lesser Bamboo Lemur ( Hapalemur occidentalis) is species of Bamboo lemur endemic to Madagascar. The Southern Lesser Bamboo Lemur ( Hapalemur meridionalis) is species of Bamboo lemur endemic to southern Madagascar near Tôlanaro. The Lac Alaotra Gentle Lemur ( Hapalemur alaotrensis) also known as the Alaotran Gentle Lemur or locally as the Bandro, is a Bamboo lemur The Golden Bamboo Lemur or Golden Lemur ( Hapalemur aureus) is a medium sized Bamboo lemur endemic to southeastern Madagascar. The Greater Bamboo Lemur ( Prolemur simus) is a large greyish brown Lemur with white ear tufts The Greater Bamboo Lemur ( Prolemur simus) is a large greyish brown Lemur with white ear tufts The sportive lemurs are the medium sized Primates that make up the Lepilemuridae family The Indridae (also spelled Indriidae) are a family of Strepsirrhine Primates They are medium to large sized Lemurs with only four teeth in The Aye-aye ( Daubentonia madagascariensis) is a Strepsirrhine native to Madagascar that combines Rodent -like teeth with a long thin middle Lorisidae (or sometimes Loridae) is a family of Strepsirrhine Primates The lorids are all slim Arboreal animals and include the Galagos, also known as bushbabies, bush babies or nagapies (meaning "little night monkeys" in Afrikaans) are small Nocturnal The haplorrhines, the "dry-nosed" primates (the Greek name means "simple-nosed" are members of the Haplorrhini clade: the Prosimian A genus (plural genera from Γένος Latin genus "descent family type gender" is a low-level Taxonomic The Ring-tailed Lemur ( Lemur catta) is a relatively large Strepsirhine Primate, a Lemur belonging to the family Lemuridae. It is easily recognized by its black and white striped tail, and is found in many zoos.

Lemur species in the Eulemur are known to interbreed, despite having dramatically different chromosome numbers. True lemurs, also known as brown lemurs, are the Lemurs in genus Eulemur. A chromosome is an organized structure of DNA and Protein that is found in cells. Red-fronted (2N=60) and Collared (2N=50-52) Brown Lemurs were found to hybridize at Berenty Reserve, Madagascar. The Red-fronted Brown Lemur ( Eulemur rufus) is a species of Lemur from Madagascar. "Haplo" redirects here For the fictional character see The Death Gate Cycle. The Collared Brown Lemur ( Eulemur collaris) is a species of Primate in the Lemuridae family "Haplo" redirects here For the fictional character see The Death Gate Cycle. True lemurs, also known as brown lemurs, are the Lemurs in genus Eulemur. In Biology, hybrid has two meanings The first meaning is the result of interbreeding between two animals or plants of different taxa. Berenty Reserve is a small private reserve of gallery forest along the Mandrare river set in the semi-arid spiny forest ecoregion of the far south of Madagascar. Madagascar, or Republic of Madagascar (older name Malagasy Republic) is an Island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeastern [4]
