He studied musical theatre at Laine Theatre Arts. Laine Theatre Arts is an independent performing arts college based in the town of Epsom in Surrey, England. In 1997, he became a member of the pop group Steps; they went on to sell 14 consecutive Top 5 singles (a feat for a British act, at the time bettered only by the Beatles), sold more than 12 million albums and announced their split on Boxing Day 2001. Steps was a pop group that achieved a series of charted singles between 1997 and 2001 In the same year as the Steps split, he appeared naked in the magazine Attitude.
He has also appeared in the stage production of Grease in London's West End playing 'Teen Angel'. It is rumoured that he was cast in the role without the producers actually hearing him sing. Lee later parted company with the MTV show, Totally Boyband. Lee was dismissed by the other band members. He only featured in four episodes of the reality programme and was not involved in recording their single. In 2000, Latchford-Evans was criticized by the Anti Fascist Action organisation for making allegedly xenophobic remarks against asylum seekers [1] along with fellow Steps member Claire Richards. He stated that "there should be more jobs for English people" with Richards continuing, "Why are we paying for all these people to come into the country anyway?". All accusations were vehemently denied by both Latchford-Evans and Richards.
