Early years

Her father Leslie Gofton, is a retired university lecturer. [1]

Lauren was born and brought up in Sunderland and first attended St. Sunderland (, or /ˈsʌn(dlən/ is a City in Tyne and Wear, England. Mary's R. C. Primary School in 1982, where she befriended fellow Kenickie guitarist Marie du Santiago, and then St. Kenickie were a four-piece punk - indie band from Sunderland, UK. Anthony's R. C. Girls School between 1989 and 1994, where the pair first met Emmy-Kate Montrose. Despite being a challenged student, Laverne then went on to study English Literature, Social History and Sociology at City of Sunderland College from 1994 to 1996.

Music

During these two years Lauren, Marie and Emmy-Kate formed a teen punk band called Kenickie with Lauren's brother Pete. Kenickie were a four-piece punk - indie band from Sunderland, UK. Their popularity grew and Lauren continually had to alternate between studying for A-levels and touring with the band. Despite this strain, Laverne won a place at nearby Durham University to study Medieval History, but her entry was deferred in order to concentrate on the band in 1996-7. Durham University is a University in Durham, England. It was founded as the University of Durham (which remains its official and legal name The band's rapid rise to prominence in 1997 coincided with a relocation from Sunderland to London, as the thrice-weekly commute was proving too costly and tiring, which meant she never took up the place. Sunderland (, or /ˈsʌn(dlən/ is a City in Tyne and Wear, England. London ( ˈlʌndən is the capital and largest urban area in the United Kingdom. In all, Kenickie achieved four top 40 hits and a top ten album and became darlings of the British music press, due to their refreshing style and outspoken views.

The relocation to London proved to be the band's ultimate downfall as it ruined the dynamic built up by being based in Sunderland. London ( ˈlʌndən is the capital and largest urban area in the United Kingdom. Sunderland (, or /ˈsʌn(dlən/ is a City in Tyne and Wear, England.
