Langerin is a type II transmembrane cell surface receptor produced by Langerhans cells. Transmembrane receptors are Integral membrane proteins which reside and operate typically within a cell's Plasma membrane, but also in the membranes of Not to be confused with the Beta cells making up the Islets of Langerhans.

Langerin on mucosal Langerhans cells in the lining of human genitalia was shown in 2007 to have a destructive effect on HIV.
