A land grant is a gift of real estate - land or privileges - made by a government or other authority as a reward for services to an individual, especially as rewards for military service. Real estate is a legal term (in some jurisdictions notably in the USA, United Kingdom Military service in its simplest sense is service by an individual or group in an Army or other military organization whether as a chosen job or as a result of an involuntary Grants of land are also awarded to individuals and companies as incentives to develop unused land in relatively unpopulated countries.
The process of awarding land grants are not limited to the countries named below, and has been used in most countries around the world.
