Arguably Akabusi's most famous moment came during the 1991 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Kriss, a 400m hurdles specialist, was running anchor leg for the Great Britain team in the 4x400m relay final. He picked up the baton in second place, some 1-2 metres down on the newly crowned World Champion, USA's Antonio Pettigrew. Antonio Pettigrew (born November 3, 1967) was a 2000 Olympic gold medalist in the men's 4x400 meter relay for the United States, by his Matching Pettigrew for pace for most of the lap, Kriss moved up onto his shoulder on the final bend and just edged him out in the sprint for the line to take an unlikely Gold medal for GB.
