He went to Saint Mary's College and went away to study in the United States and United Kingdom to further his studies. Saint Mary's College is a government-assisted Catholic secondary school situated on Frederick Street in the heart of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He went into broadcasting in the early 1950's as a radio announcer for Radio Trinidad. Radio Trinidad is the oldest Radio station in Trinidad and Tobago. He later became chairman of a conglomerate. In 1986 he was appointed a Minister of Tourism under the National Alliance for Reconstruction as a senator. The National Alliance for Reconstruction (NAR was the governing party in Trinidad and Tobago between 1986 and 1991.

He married three times, the present being Marguerite Gordon. He has four children.

He was instrumental in introducing the first private television station in the English Caribbean, CCN TV6, and Prime Radio, which is owned by the Trinidad and Tobago Express Newspapers Limited, in 1991. CCN TV6 is the largest private television broadcaster in Trinidad and Tobago. The Trinidad and Tobago Express (and the Sunday Express) is one of three daily Newspapers in Trinidad and Tobago. He was the chairman of that company until 2006, when he became chairman of the West Indies Cricket Board.
