Overview

Kang is a dahar master, and an honored Klingon warrior whose adventures are retold in the great Klingon epic 'The Fall of Kang' by G'Trok. An excerpt from the song goes like this:

So honor the valiant who die 'neath your sword, But pity the warrior who slays all his foes.

Kang's initial appearance was in the Star Trek episode "Day of the Dove" In this episode, Kang, his wife Mara, and 40 of his crew are rescued by the Enterprise from their wrecked ship. "Day of the Dove" is a third season episode of Star Trek The Original Series, first broadcast November 1, 1968 and repeated An alien force tries to make the Klingons and the Starfleet personnel fight each other. Eventually Captain Kirk found out what was going on, and convinced Kang to stop fighting as well. Realizing the Klingons and the Enterprise crew are no longer willing to be manipulated, the alien force departs. Kang tells the alien force that "only a fool fights in a burning house. "

Kang met Curzon Dax at the Korvat colony and became good friends with him, so much so that Kang named his firstborn "Dax". Curzon Dax is a Fictional character from the television show Star Trek Deep Space Nine who was played by Frank Owen Smith. When the child was killed by a genetic mutation engineered by a Klingon Albino renegade, Kang swore a blood oath of revenge with Kor, Koloth and Curzon Dax, which they fulfilled in 2370. Kor, played by John Colicos, is the first Klingon to appear in Star Trek. Koloth, played by William Campbell, is a Klingon character in the fictional Star Trek universe who appears in the original series Kang died during this engagement.

Kang faced Captain James T. Kirk in combat, and later Captain Hikaru Sulu. Hikaru Sulu is a fictional character who is portrayed by George Takei in the original Star Trek series the first six Star Trek films and one episode Kang appeared in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Flashback" in which Tuvok remembers his time serving under Sulu's command. Kang is the only Klingon to appear retconned with ridges in the original series movie era (by means of "Flashback"), suggesting that he was cured of the Augment condition by that time. Retroactive continuity is the deliberate changing of previously established facts in a work of serial fiction

Cultural references

In The Simpsons, one of the two aliens from the show's Halloween specials is named for Kang. Halloween, or Hallowe’en, is a Holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. Kang and Kodos are a duo of recurring characters in the animated television series The Simpsons.
