The Kamener Kreuz is a cloverleaf interchange in North Rhine-Westphalia Germany where the Autobahnen A1 and A2 meet. The Kamener Kreuz is currently being renovated and upgraded to three lanes per direction, this requires the demolition of the old A1 bridge and the construction of a new one. Additionally, an overfly ramp from the A2-East (Hannover) to A1-South (Cologne) will be built, so the interchange will lose its classic cloverleaf shape.
Friday 22nd of May 2008, 5 people died in tragic accident at the Kamener-Kreuz. Six more people were injured. At 18. 25 three heavy trucks and two cars crashed at the end of a traffic combustions and caught fire. The vehicles were completely destroyed. The heat of the fire destroyed the surface of the road.
