History

Bates Technical College owned public radio station KBTC-FM until 2004, when it was sold to Public Radio Capital, which then licensed the frequency to KEXP. KEXP (903 FM) is a public Radio station based in Seattle Washington, that specializes in independent and Alternative rock programmed KEXP wished to extend their signal into the South Sound, and simulcast its regular program on the station, changing its call letters to KXOT.

The station began as KTOY in the 1960s and during the day was manned by Bates Technical College broadcasting students studying under former KJR_(AM) DJ Lee Perkins.
