A fire knocked KREX, KFQX and KGJT off the air on Sunday January 20, 2008 at approximately 8:45 AM local time. KREX-TV is the CBS affiliate for most of western Colorado. Based in Grand Junction and owned by Hoak Media Corporation, it operates on The station's building and 50 years worth of archives are a total loss. The exact cause of the fire is not known at this time. The station was safely evacuated as the fire department arrived.
The KREX Studios are a total loss according to the station's general manager. It is unknown at present if KGJT has been temporarily replaced on cable or over-the-air. According to titan. tv, KGJT is currently repeating KREX's programming, with no variances in the schedule.
