Biography
Julian May grew up in Chicago, and became involved in science fiction fandom in her late teens. Chicago (ʃɪˈkɑːgoʊ is the largest City by population in the state of Illinois and the American Midwest of the United States. Science fiction fandom or SF fandom is a community of people actively interested in Science fiction and Fantasy literature, and in contact with one another She sold her first professional fiction, a short story called "Dune Roller", in 1951 to John W. Campbell's Astounding Science Fiction. The short story is a literary genre of Fictional Prose Narrative that tends to be more concise and to the point than longer works of fiction such John Wood Campbell Jr (June 8 1910 – July 11 1971 was an important Science fiction editor and writer Analog Science Fiction and Fact is an American Science fiction Magazine. She met her future husband, Ted Dikty, later that year when he requested permission to reprint the story in his anthology series; they were married in 1952. Thaddeus Maxim Eugene (Ted Dikty ( June 16, 1920 - 1991 was one of the earliest Science fiction Anthologists He started the first "Best She chaired the Tenth World Science Fiction Convention in Chicago that same year. After selling one more short story, "Star of Wonder" (to Thrilling Wonder Stories in 1953), she dropped out of the science fiction field.
During the 1950s, May wrote thousands of science articles for the World Book encyclopedia. Between 1957 and 1981 she wrote more than one hundred books for children and young adults, all non-fiction, and two stories under her own names and a variety of pseudonyms.
