Jovibarba ("beard of Jove") is a small genus of three species of succulents in the family Crassulaceae, endemic to Europe. Floral symmetry refers to whether and how a Flower can be divided into two or more identical or mirror-image parts The common name Hen and chicks is applied to some Jovibarba species (and also species in several other related genera). Hen and chicks (also known as Hen-and-chickens) is a common name for a group of small succulents belonging to the Flowering plant family

In addition to sexual propagation by seeds and propagation by offsets, the species Jovibarba heuffelii also propagates by dividing rosettes. A seed (in some plants referred to as a kernel) is a small embryonic Plant enclosed in a covering called the seed coat usually with some stored See " Offset " for other uses of the term gives rise to tuft of buds at node called offste and adventitious roots below

Species

Only three species are accepted as distinct by the Flora Europaea:

Jovibarba globifera and its subspecies (subsp. hirtum, subsp. allionii, subsp. arenaria) live in the eastern and southern Alps, the Carpathians and the western Balkans south to northern Albania. J. heuffelii occurs in the remainder of the Balkans and the eastern Carpathians, southeast of J. globifera. J. hirta occurs further west, in the southwestern Alps.
