Garci gained early experience in cinema by writing scripts and acting. He made his directorial debut in 1970 with El cronicón. After a relative success in one dozen of movies, in 1977 the moviegoers were impressed with Asignatura pendiente (aka Unfinished Business). Asignatura pendiente is a 1977 Spanish Drama film co- written and directed by José Luis Garci.
