Jonathan Tyler is a Green Party activist and academic. The Green Party of England and Wales (GPEW (Plaid Werdd Cymru a Lloegr is the principal Green political party in England and Wales.

Tyler was the Ecology Party's first Parliamentary candidate, in the Walsall North by-election in 1976, at a time when he was a transport lecturer at the University of Birmingham. The Walsall North By-election on 4 November 1976 was held after the resignation of sitting Member of Parliament (MP John Stonehouse The University of Birmingham (informally Birmingham University) is a British red brick University located in the city of Birmingham [1] He would later go no to stand as a candidate in local elections. He was also the Ecology Party's chairman in the 1970s.

During the 1980s he was associated with attempts by the 'Maingreen' group to streamline the Green Party's internal workings. [1] He subsequently left the Green Party, but rejoined some years later.

He is now a member of York Green Party and has been Chair of York Environment Forum [2] whilst also working as a transport consultant
