John S. Lewis is a professor of planetary science at the University of Arizona’s Lunar and Planetary Laboratory. Planetary science, also known as planetology and closely related to planetary astronomy, is the Science of Planets or Planetary systems The University of Arizona (also referred to as UA, U of A, or Arizona) is a Land-grant and space-grant public institution His interests in the chemistry and formation of the solar system and the economic development of space have made him a leading proponent of turning potentially hazardous near-Earth objects into attractive space resources. The Solar System consists of the Sun and those celestial objects bound to it by Gravity. Outer space, often simply called space, comprises the relatively empty regions of the Universe outside the escape velocities of Celestial bodies. Near-Earth objects ( NEOs) are Asteroids Comets and large Meteoroids whose orbits bring them close ( Perihelion distance AU Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Lewis taught space sciences and cosmochemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Space science is an all-encompassing term that describes all of the various science fields that are concerned with the study of the Universe, generally also meaning "excluding Cosmochemistry is concerned with the origin and development of the elements and their Isotopes primarily within the Solar System. He received his education at Princeton University, Dartmouth College and the University of California, San Diego, where he studied under Harold Urey. An expert on the composition and chemistry of asteroids and comets, Lewis has written such popular science books as Rain of Iron and Ice and Mining the Sky. Asteroids, sometimes called Minor planets or planetoids', are bodies—primarily of the inner Solar System —that are smaller than planets but A comet is a small Solar System body that orbits the Sun and when close enough to the Sun exhibits a visible coma (atmosphere or a tail — Mining the Sky Untold Riches from the Asteroids Comets and Planets is a book by John S Lewis is also highly respected member of The Watch Council of The Space Frontier Foundation. The Space Frontier Foundation is a small but influential Space advocacy organization that promotes increased involvement of the private sector rather than governments
