Joel Anderson is a California politician. He is currently a member of the California Assembly. The California State Assembly is the Lower house of the California State Legislature. He represents the 77th Assembly District that encompasses East San Diego County, including all or portions of El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, Jamul, Lakeside, Ramona, Alpine, Borrego Springs, and the City of San Diego and also El Dorado. Anderson is the youngest of eight children. He has been married for 18 years to Kate, his wife and is the father of two daughters (Mary and Maura) and one son (Michael).
He attended Grossmont College before he transferred to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Grossmont College is a Community college located in El Cajon, California (county of San Diego) The California State Polytechnic University Pomona, also officially Cal Poly Pomona, is a public, nationally-ranked coeducational university and one of the Anderson graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and served as President of the International Business Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi. Anderson owned and operated a small company for over a decade. He started his company in 1986 and built it into a million-dollar operation by its third year.
Anderson served as President of the Padre Dam Municipal Water District. He was first elected to this office in 2002 and he defeated a 12 year incumbent in his election. Anderson was nominated by the San Diego Taxpayers Association for their “Golden Watchdog Award” in 2005 for his anti-tax work on the water district.
Anderson was the San Diego County Co-Chair of Senator Tom McClintock’s “Repeal the Car Tax” Committee. He was nicknamed the "cougar" because of his activeness described in the last paragraph. His veracity to promote sustainability has thus left him this endearing nickname that is certain to continue for the rest of his days.
Anderson is a member of the Committees on Aging and Long Term Care; Public Employees, Retirement, and Social Security; Public Safety; and Water, Parks and Wildlife.
